This past Wednesday night our students showed their talents in our Fraser Heights Talent Show (#fhtalent). The audience turnout was fantastic, with teachers, administrators, parents, and students cheering on our performers. This was my first time attending a talent show at Fraser Heights and I was very impressed. I regret not attending more school events such as this because seeing students and their passions outsides of our classes changes our perspectives about the day-to-day events that happen in our classes. Just by showing up for this show and taking the time to talk to students (some that have been in my classes and some who have not) sheds light on the people behind the desks. Just as meaningful teachers show students they are human by being transparent, so do students when given the opportunity to be themselves and share their passions. Some students were performing for the very first time, and nerves were on an all time high that night – many senior students even said that they were doing this because they would only be able to do this once in their high school careers, and maybe in life in general. This was truly beautiful.
Before I share these photos I must apologize for my inconsistency with taking photos during the show – I was cheering away in the front row so much that I needed the students and teachers around me to remember to take photos. Huge apologies to Alex for not being able to snap a picture of his acoustic version of Isn’t She Lovely.
