Another round of fondant cakes from my 2nd ever Food Art 11 class!
So how did this all start? We ventured as a class out to the wooded area behind our school one afternoon. We stood in silence, listened to the voices of nature, and used all of our senses to feel the beginning of spring. We felt the new shoots and leaves that were emerging from the winter brush and I asked students to take the colours and themes that they could extract from their senses and experiences in creating an “Emerging” Spring cake. Students spent half the class sitting under trees and on rocks sketching their new creations. In the end, we came up with 13 magnificent cakes that had clear inspirations. Each group was asked to write an artist statement for each cake.
