I enlisted the help of my students to create a self-portrait I was assigned to do in on of my M.Ed. courses. The assignment was to draw, write, or take a photo – the usual self portrait. As I thought about this assignment I contemplated: if I was to put together a self-portrait of myself, what I believed to be part of who I am as an educator can only be reflected with the thoughts of my students. I just did not feel right drawing a picture of myself and where I believed I came from, where I am, and where I think I’m going. It’s far more interesting (and funny) to see where my students can take it with respect to my own exploration of self.
