Did 1955 Home Economics Curriculum kill creativity?

Another M.Ed. post:

This week was my group’s turn to lead a discussion for our Curriculum Issues and Theories class. We had a few articles to inspire us and in the end we decided to ask our colleagues to watch this video:

After watching the YouTube video we posted the following question:

Do you believe that the 1955 home economics curriculum “killed kids, or teachers, or creativity or the self, or the spirit?

The context of the question came from an article (Thompson) we read stating the case for “domestic literacy”

“It is criminal that we are allowing generations to grow up without the basic knowledge they need to care for themselves, their children, and their homes.” (pp.14)
