Home Economics 8

Leaving the Nest

My first group of Grade 8s at Fraser Heights has now left me and I could not be any prouder. Last Thursday was the last official lab of their Foods and Nutrition 8 rotation with me before they go to Ms. Krishnan for Textiles Studies. I remember panic and stress that I had witnessed in the past when it came to this lab (it’s usually the first time grade 8s use the stoves in the kitchen and to make things even more challenging they’re working with woks, which are heated to the maximum heat until oil reaches a smoking point). I did my little song and dance for a while and after a short break we descended into the lab to cook our 3-part meal (Stir-fried Vegetables, Rice, and Sauce). To my surprise, all groups finished on time! From the beginning of the school year until now this class has grown leaps and bounds. See some photos of their final days with me!
